Dustin Hancock grew up in Damariscotta, graduating from Great Salt Bay School and Lincoln Academy. It was while at Lincoln Academy that he started working at the Strong Funeral Home. He graduated cum laude from the New England Institute at Mount Ida College with his degree in Funeral Service in 1994. In 1997, upon graduating from the University of New England with his degree in Medical Biology, he came back to Damariscotta to serve the people of the community he called home. On July 30, 2009, Dustin became only the fourth owner in the funeral homes 78 year history.
Paul Smeltzer started working in a funeral home while in high school in Presque Isle. While growing up the son of a pastor, Paul once lived in Bristol while his father served churches in Round Pond and New Harbor. He would go on to graduate from Mount Ida College, and has worked at several funeral homes throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. He currently lives in Waldoboro with his wife and two kids, where he serves the town as their Fire Chief.
Our funeral attendants, Andrea Hallowell, David Gay, and George Farris all grew up in Lincoln County, attended local schools, and graduated from Lincoln Academy. They realize the special community they are a part of, and have chosen to stay here and raise their own families. Andrea is a mother of three who substitute teaches at the local schools and volunteers regularly for the Miles Memorial Hospital League. David is the father to two sons, and for several years he delivered Meals on Wheels to the people of Lincoln County. George grew up in the same house he currently lives in and is proud to call this area home.
We all know how lucky we are to call this area home, and how special it is to call the people of this community our friends and neighbors.
